Capt. Alexander T. Cole enlisted at the age of 21 on May 30, 1861. Mustered in as Sgt. but was reduced to Pvt. on Sept. 10, 1861. Elected Capt. on May 10, 1862. He was struck by seven bullets at or near Malvern Hill Va. Wounded at Sharpsburg Sept. 17, 1862. Wounded in the foot at Chancellorsville. He was captured while being taken to the rear.Confined at Washington and paroled May 18 1863. Captured at Spotsylvania Court House May 10, 1864. Confined at Fort Delaware and taken to Hilton Head Island on Nov. 19, 1864. Taken back to Fort Delaware on March 1 ,1865. Released on June 8, 1865, after taking the oath of allegiance. Clarks Regiments states "Too few if any, of all the sons of the south was given to endure more and suffer more in her defense than this gallant officer".
