Chancy G. Mercer, Private
2nd Company A.  36th Regiment - Artillery
Enlisted in Brunswick County at age 17, January 9, 1864 for the war.  
Present or accounted for through August 1864.  
Captured at Fort Fisher January 15, 1865 and confined at Elmira, N.Y. where he died March 
11, 1865 of "gangrene of feet."  
Buried in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira.
