Captain Croom's Company, North Carolina Local Defense, was known as the 
Kinston Guards or Kinston Provost Guard. The unit was formed from Greene 
and Lenoir Counties for local defense and special service, and for Provost duty 
in defense of Kinston, North Carolina.

DAVIS, CHRISTOPHER L., 2nd Lieutenant Born in Lenoir County where he 
resided before enlisting at age 41. Appears on a muster roll dated August 7, 1
863, and reported present through August 31, 1864.
