Daniel A. Sawyer 	Captain

Daniel was born in Pasquotank County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting at age 24. 
He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant to rank from May 16, 1861. He was captured at Roanoke 
Island on February 8, 1862 and paroled at Elizabeth City, NC on February 21, 1862. He was 
exchanged in August, 1862.  Daniel was appointed 1st Lieutenant to rank from October 25, 1862 
and promoted to captain to rank from July 8, 1863. He was present and accounted for until 
wounded in the leg on the Weldon Railroad near Petersburg, Virginia on August 19, 1864. He 
was reported absent wounded through October, 1864. Paroled at Greensboro, NC on May 1, 1865.
