Enlisted in Brunswick County at age 34, July 12, 1862 for the war.  
Discharged May 29, 1863 by reason of disability.

Returned home and raised a family of 8 children.
Note:  The Soldier's Application for Pension for Lewis B. Mercer lists his disability as Flesh 
Wound in left hip, Inguinal Hernia, Senile Decay, 3/4 disabled.
