Martin Vance Stanley, Sgt., born in Columbus County, son of William Jackson Stanley and Helen 
Victoria Gore, by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in Columbus County at the age of 21 on 
May 24, 1861, mustered in as Sgt. present and accounted for until wounded at the Battle of 
Manassas, Virgina on August 30, 1862. Died September 5, 1862 of wounds. Place of death 
not reported. Company C, 18th Regiment
