Enlisted in Company B, 18th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 03 May
1861.
Wounded on 30 June 1862 at Frayser's Farm, VA
Promoted to Full Sergeant 1st Class on 22 September 1862
Wounded on 13 December 1862 at Fredericksburg, VA
Transferred Company B, 18th Infantry Regiment North Carolina on 13 July
1864
Enlisted in on 13 July 1864.
 
Died in 1869 of his wounds.



Edwards, William James 1st Sergeant
Born in Bladen County and was by occupation a farmer prior to enlisting in 
Bladen County at age 24, May 3, 1861. Mustered in as Sergeant and was
promoted to 1st Sergeant on September 22, 1862. Present and accounted for
until wounded at Fredericksburg, Virginia, December 13, 1862. Reported absent 
wounded until he was retired to the Invalid Corps on July 13, 1864.
